Overview
Thamuz is a fearsome Fighter known for his incredible sustained damage and self-sustain in prolonged fights. As the former ruler of the Abyss, his gameplay revolves around aggressive laning, constantly applying the Scorch effect from his passive. His role is to anchor the EXP Lane, dominate his opponent, and then transition into team fights where he can relentlessly dive the backline, using his ultimate, Cauterant Inferno, to become nearly unkillable while melting the enemy's HP with his spinning Scythes. He's a brawler who thrives in chaos and excels at both split-pushing and front-lining.
Strengths
Thamuz's greatest strength lies in his early-to-mid game dominance. His passive, Grand Lord Lava, provides an extremely powerful damage boost and healing effect, making him one of the best duelists in the game. He has exceptional lifesteal from his ultimate, which allows him to sustain through heavy damage and turn around seemingly lost fights. Furthermore, his two main damage abilities, Molten Scythes and Crescent Scythes, are on very short cooldowns, ensuring he can consistently dish out high, continuous Area of Effect (AoE) damage, which makes him a menace in team fights when he's able to stick to the enemy backline.
Weaknesses
Thamuz is highly susceptible to Crowd Control (CC), which can completely shut down his rotation and prevent him from dealing the damage required to sustain himself. Heroes with high burst damage can also counter him by quickly depleting his HP before he has time to fully activate and benefit from his ultimate's massive regeneration. His main strength, close-range brawling, is also his main weakness; he has no reliable escape mechanism and is very kiteable by ranged heroes, meaning if he mispositions or gets caught out by the enemy backline, he will quickly be focused down and eliminated.
Hybrid Sustain build
Thamuz performs best with a build that balances Physical Attack for damage, Defense for survivability, and HP Regen to maximize his ultimate's healing.
Trinity attack build
The current meta build for the revamped Thamuz prioritizes Attack Speed and Hybrid Defense to maximize the proc rate of his passive's True Damage and the healing from his Ultimate.
Fighter emblem
The optimal choice for Thamuz is the Custom Fighter Emblem. This emblem set enhances his natural strengths as a sustained damage dealer and brawler.
Battle Spell
The best Battle Spell for Thamuz is Flicker. Although some players may opt for Execute to secure kills or Vengeance for more sustain, Flicker provides crucial mobility that covers Thamuz's main weakness: being kited and having no built-in escape. You should use Flicker aggressively to surprise the enemy backline, especially the Marksman or Mage, immediately after casting your second skill, Crescent Scythes, to ensure you can stick to them and unload your damage. Defensively, Flicker can be used to escape ganks, dodge high-impact enemy crowd control (CC) like a Franco hook or a Tigreal ultimate, or reposition to pick up your scattered Scythes faster. Mastering the offensive use of Flicker is key to turning Thamuz from a simple duelist into a terrifying team-fight initiator
Itemization
Thamuz is a dominant EXP Lane Fighter best played with the Attack Speed Trinity build (Corrosion Scythe, Golden Staff, Demon Hunter Sword) to maximize his passive's True Damage and the massive HP Regen from his Ultimate. His key spell is Flicker, used offensively to dive enemy backlines, compensating for his lack of escape. He is strongest in the Early Game for lane control and the Late Game as a high-sustain, disruptive diver, but is vulnerable to heavy Crowd Control (CC).
Best With Angela
The best hero compatibility for Thamuz is Angela. She gives him the essential tools to be unstoppable: her ultimate, Heartguard, grants a huge shield and a powerful movement speed buff that stacks with his ultimate's massive healing. This synergy allows Thamuz to dive deep into the enemy backline without fear of being burst down, ensuring his sustained damage connects and he remains uncatchable.
Watch Out For Dyrroth
The most direct and reliable counter to Thamuz is the EXP Laner Dyrroth. His core effectiveness comes from his passive, which applies an enhanced basic attack that significantly reduces the target's Physical Defense. This is specifically devastating to Thamuz, who relies on his natural armor and massive HP regen to survive. By combining the armor shred from his passive and his Ultimate, Abysm Strike, with an early purchased Sea Halberd for anti-healing, Dyrroth is uniquely equipped to cut through Thamuz's defenses and nullify his healing, consistently winning the 1v1 duel in the lane.
